Apple is set to make payments to certain MacBook owners!

Ana sayfa / News

Apple has begun making payments to users due to faulty keyboards used in certain MacBook models from 2015 to 2019. The company is sending settlement payments to some device owners in the U.S. for MacBook models equipped with the butterfly keyboard.

Apple first introduced the butterfly keyboard design in 2015 to make the MacBook keyboards thinner. However, this design led to sticky key issues for many users. A lawsuit filed in 2018 resulted in Apple being required to compensate users.

Initially, Apple offered free repair services for key malfunctions and multiple replacements. However, the class-action lawsuit continued and culminated earlier this year in a $50 million settlement being approved.

Huawei's developed Kirin chip offers performance similar to Apple's M3 and features twice the memory bandwidth compared to previous chips.

Users who opted for the settlement have started receiving refunds this month. While the operation is currently being conducted in the U.S., it remains unclear whether it will impact users in Europe and Asia. Additionally, no information has been provided about digital payments.

Customers who had to replace their MacBook keyboards two or more times will receive $395. Those who had a single replacement can receive up to $125, while users who only had individual keys repaired are eligible for up to $50 from Apple.

With this settlement, Apple is finally addressing the longstanding issues related to the butterfly keyboard design. However, the number of users affected by the payments remains uncertain.
